Project BOSS ’76 Galant – Part 3

76 Galant

Another day with Tim’s ’76 BOSS 2.3l 4g63t Galant. Today was spent removing the interior in preperation of the modification to the the firewall and transmission tunnel for the new R154 transmission with custom R154 bell housing. It’s always amazing what you find during a disassembly in a car this old, from the ancient match packs to the things no longer moving … or moving, lol. Everything was stripped away today, and if not salvageable, was tossed and the rest put aside for restoration.

76 Galant

The R154 bell housing will be shipped back this week in exchange for an updated version, and the remainder of parts will be ordered before cutting on the Galant begins. Thus far we’ve really got a great platform that we’re able to work with visually, and this project should resume shortly. Currently the Galant is sitting aggressively with the new Toyota rear end, giving it a teaser of some nice squat on the back end. Stay tuned for more updates!

Project BOSS ’76 Galant – Part 2

Work started early in the morning with the rear of the ’76 Galant. The modification began yesterday, and the modified Toyo rear was set in place today. Welding on the new leaf brackets will be done, once establishment of the pumpkin level is made.

Moving to the front, the early 1.6l was removed, and placement of the mock 4g63t was put in. Fabrication will begin this week, on the chassis, in order to compensate the custom R154 bell housing and transmission.

I just wanted share Tim’s ’76 Galant build. Getting worked over with a new rear end, custom drive shaft and Toyota transmission, to take the abuse of the BOSS built 2.3l 4g63t.
The BOSS 2.3l 4g63t is supported with Weisco pistons top coated by TCC, Manley rods, ACL Race bearings, BOSS main girdle, Eagle Stroker crank, BSEK, amongst other new hardware. With ARP hardware throughout, the 2.3l block is topped off with a BOSS built cylinder head featuring BC valve train and Delta 272 cams.
Work progresses on rear end fabrication today, so keep an eye out for more updates.

The BOSS AE86 Levin is moving along smoothly. The day was spent aligning the VIS carbon fiber hood and doors with the OEM Levin fenders to ensure proper fitment. Partnered with VIS, the BOSS AE86 will be under going completion of the custom front bumper support and completion of the front fender flares this week. The BOSS AE86 Levin is sponsored with VIS and is on track for final paint to be laid in April; featuring VIS complete body kit, cf hood, cf doors, and cf hatch.

IS300 – 2JZGTE Swap

Roberts IS300

Robert came to me late last year with the request to swap in a 2JZGTE into his 2004 IS300. Robert had already purchased a 2JZGTE engine from a seller on CL, which unfortunately had already been disassembled and was missing quite a few key components. Thus work began this year to put together a list to start getting the engine together and ready to be swapped into the IS300. Currently we are in mid process, with the BOSS short block assembled and cylinder head ready to go. We’ll keep you posted as we get further into this build!

BOSS ’69 Datsun 510

Was happy to have Tristin come down to the shop with his BOSS Datsun 510. AMS oil lube service was the first priority of the day, followed by some carb work. Had a chance to spoof up the front end by going JDM on the bumper, and ditching the US spec safety bumpers. Ended the day with some Interior detailing, and giving the car one last visual look over. You guys are gonna like this project. Clean bodied 510 and a great platform to work off of. Keep an eye out for the updates on this build!
